A Day in This Military Wife’s Life

I thought long about tonight’s entry but figured since this is a blog about military families why not do one on a daily look at the life of one. Before I begin I want to add this is in no way saying this is how every military family is, some families have no children while others have one or more, some have working moms while others stay at home and some even have additional family members living with them for a while, so all of these schedules would definitely look different. If you are a military family member I’d love … Continue reading

My Life as a Military Wife

I apologize for the dorky title, but since I am new to the military blog, I thought I might tell you a little about myself. I am an older military wife. I met my wonderful Marine husband when I was 32 years old and we married when I was 37. I grew up with a few military members in my family. My aunt married a sailor, but they lived in Virginia, so I only saw my Uncle on holidays. My dad’s half brother was a Marine in World War II at Iwo Jima, but he was about 20 years older … Continue reading

Jim Nabors Marries in Seattle

As you know, same-sex marriage has been in the news – A LOT!  Gays are still fighting to be like regular couples while many heterosexuals feel that marriage should be reserved for males and females. Some oppose homosexuality because they say that lifestyle is more promiscuous than heterosexuality.  I beg to differ and here is a prime example. Their attorney is seeking a hardship waiver to keep Yaderlin in the country. She is currently living with her spouse’s family in Pennsylvania. Under normal circumstances, … Continue reading

Marriages Ending as Deployments Are Extended

Deployments are being extended with units assigned overseas to Afghanistan and Iraq. One article in the Chicago Tribune noted that for one unit in Afghanistan for over 16 months and just extended for another four months the toll on the unit has been extreme. Eight men in the squadron have died. Wives have given birth to babies, one soldier’s wife suffered brain damage after getting in a car wreck that killed two other people. Another soldier found out that his father had less than two weeks to live after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. At least three soldiers … Continue reading

Base Medical vs. Off Base

Base Medical vs. Off base What’s the difference from going to a doctor/midwife on base versus off base? Many come to this question when it comes time to move to another base or they find themselves pregnant. I have had to figure this out with each pregnancy and it would take a lot of thought of whether I wanted on or off and then if I could even get approved. Here are a few things to think about before you decide and a bit of my own experiences to help you along the way. We haven’t moved that many times … Continue reading
