Ways For Genealogists To Celebrate Memorial Day

This weekend will be filled with Memorial Day celebrations. Now is the time for people to finalize their plans for this three day weekend. For genealogists, this is an opportunity to dig into your own family history, and learn a little bit more about your ancestors. Memorial Day is a legal holiday in the United States. This basically means that workers are supposed to get the holiday off of work, so that they can honor military men and women who gave their lives to serve their country. Obviously, not everyone will actually get to take the day off of work. … Continue reading

Veterans Day: A Little History

It seems that a lot of people get confused when it comes to Veterans Day. Part of the reason may be because it has changed over the years. The date has been changed as well as the name. The original holiday was celebrated as a day of peace, and was known as Armistice Day, which marked the end of World War I. The date the war officially ended was November 11, which became the annual date of recognition. In 1954, it was changed to Veterans Day to honor all war Veterans. Obama’s Proposed Budget Will Affect TRICARE

President Obama has created a budget that involves cuts to military health care spending. TRICARE is a government run health insurance plan that is available for members of the United States Department of Defense Military Health Care System. This insurance provides health insurance benefits for current military personnel, for their dependents, and for military retirees, (who are also called Veterans). TRICARE is the civilian … Continue reading

Whether you care for science fiction or not, the character of Luke Skywalker is a young boy on the cusp of manhood. He is full of the wild emotions of youth and he is selfish and he wants … Continue reading
