Travel Deals For Military Families

Memorial Day may still be a few weeks away, but it’s never too early to get started planning your next family vacation. Given that Hawaii is home to one of the heaviest concentrations of military forces on this planet, it is no surprise that establishments there offer deeply discounted travel deals to those currently serving (or retired) from the military. Here are just a few special “Military Appreciation” promotions being offered in the islands to salute the men and women of the U.S. armed forces. As a way of saying thank you to our troops, Castle Resorts & Hotels Castle … Continue reading

The Good Thing… Military Hospitals

I must say that sometimes being in the military really pays off. I mean what other type of job is going to allow you to have children without having to foot some large hospital bill. Plus, when something goes wrong or you need to take a trip to ER you can do it without worrying about if you have the money. I tend to know my children are getting sick right before any REAL symptoms occur, which normally means having to go back a week later and telling the doctor once again. Ouch, I can only imagine how expensive this … Continue reading

Bringing Visitors on a Military Base

I thought since I’ve been talking all about traveling and having relatives come down at the last minute I should bring up the fact of what needs to be done before one can actually enter the base. Trust me it will save a lot of time and stress if these are prepared before they come down. First- Let them know whether or not it is a good time to come down. The simple fact that you may already have plans that can’t be canceled really needs to be addressed. It’s hard enough to do certain things in the military and … Continue reading

Being Military Around the Holidays

Being in the military can mean being away from family, not just your immediate family but you your parents, sister, brother, etc. How do you handle this? I’ve grown up military so for me this isn’t too big a deal but there are times that I become really homesick for mom and dad, especially around the holidays. I don’t remember many holidays but I do know that my family had HUGE family get-togethers, which means during the holidays I can grow very lonely when I’m hearing about all the family excitement. Yes, I do have my own but it is … Continue reading

Tip For Being On Time in the Military

This week I discovered a couple of things and one of which I will be talking about in this post, I’ll save the other for another time. In some ways the military life is very much like that of the civilian life, at least when it comes to traffic and getting somewhere on time. As the holidays approach things only seem to go a bit faster. Have you noticed this? If you haven’t finished that Christmas shopping you better get on to it because even though there are only 7 days left, it’ll jump to two some how. I’m not … Continue reading

Planning a Graduation Party – Part 2

In my last blog I shared how I had procrastinated on planning my son’s graduation party. I will be having it in July but it’s really not a big deal because now I’m not in competition with all of the parties being held in June. Since I have no experience with planning a graduation party, it worked out great this past week when my husband’s entire softball team and their families went out to dinner. I was able to talk with one mom who had hosted a graduation party a couple of years ago and another mom who has gone … Continue reading

Make Reunions Happen: Be a Noble Foster

My old neighborhood was full of military families, due to the large naval base nearby. Aside from the license plates from myriad states, military-related bumper stickers, and the occasional person in some kind of uniform, it was just like any other neighborhood. That included the large number of pets in many of the homes. Another thing we saw a lot in our development was moving trucks. That’s just a fact of life in a military town. Once in a while mine or another rescue is contacted by a moving family that can’t take their pet where they’re going. These families … Continue reading

We Cannot Live on Love Alone

During my first year of marriage I wasn’t as happy as I should have been. Despite the supposed “honeymoon period,” I often felt listless and depressed. It took me a while to figure out why. Jonathan has an excellent job with the government. Unfortunately it’s located in a rural area, so most of the jobs are related to the military base that his position serves. Few jobs exist outside of the technology industry. Basically, my plan to start freelance work once we had children, so I could stay at home with them, had to be bumped up a few years … Continue reading

Why Walgreen’s Isn’t In Your Network Anymore

You might be among the many Americans who are suddenly having problems getting your prescription filled at Walgreens. Their pharmacies may no longer be considered to be “in network” by your health insurance company. The reason has to do with a dispute between Walgreens and Express Scripts. If you are a person who hardly ever gets sick enough to require prescription medication, then maybe you aren’t especially concerned with the whole process that is involved with filling prescriptions. Sure, it’s annoying to be waiting in line at a pharmacy for your prescription to be filled while you have a painful … Continue reading
