Marriage Profiles of the 2008 Presidential and Vice Presidential Nominees

While I was watching Sarah Palin’s speech during the Republican National Convention last night, I found it interesting to learn she married her high school sweetheart. It made me think that might make a fun blog: profiling the marriages of the 2008 Democratic and Republican presidential and vice presidential nominees. Barack and Michelle Obama They first met in 1989 when Barack interned at a law firm where Michelle worked. Apparently he was smitten with her right from the get go, but she didn’t want any part of an office romance. But Barack wouldn’t be deterred. He persisted in asking her … Continue reading

But if you want to dress it up a bit, … Continue reading

Rendering Aid My dearest Lonnie, I wrote this letter to the Marriage blog’s letters of love and I’m hoping they publish it. I’m sending a copy to you as well. Understanding Your Deployed Soldier

While my husband was in Iraq, I discovered a brand new side to his personality. My husband is generally pretty laid back and it takes a great deal for him to really get upset in the everyday world. To say the very least, this was not the case while he was deployed. I was lucky enough that my husband had internet access in his tent so we were able to talk everyday online and without a doubt this was a blessing; it could also be a huge stress factor as well. I arranged my life around the computer as my … Continue reading

Marriages Ending as Deployments Are Extended

Deployments are being extended with units assigned overseas to Afghanistan and Iraq. One article in the Chicago Tribune noted that for one unit in Afghanistan for over 16 months and just extended for another four months the toll on the unit has been extreme. Eight men in the squadron have died. Wives have given birth to babies, one soldier’s wife suffered brain damage after getting in a car wreck that killed two other people. Another soldier found out that his father had less than two weeks to live after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. At least three soldiers … Continue reading

What is a Key Volunteer?

I’m sure by now you are probably wondering what a Key Volunteer is. Am I right? I remember when I told my sister that I was taking a class on being a key volunteer, she had no clue what I meant but explaining it was easy. At least to me it was, which doesn’t mean she really knows what I do today. Okay first, I’ve been married to my Marine for the past 10 years but it wasn’t until two years ago that I decided to join the Key Volunteer Network. At first I just didn’t want to do it, … Continue reading

An Air Force Brat, A Marine Corps Wife…

I’ve sat here staring at a blinking mouse trying to decide how to start off this military blog. Finally, I decided you’d probably want to know exactly who I am and why I thought I might have something to say. So, here goes. I’m Elizajane202 and military has been my entire life, first as an Air Force Brat until my father retired and then I married my Marine. Trust me I’ve heard all those jokes between the AF and USMC, it has become quite common that whenever there is a family gathering someone must come up with the best joke. … Continue reading

Either is a fair option for you, but if you are looking forward to taking a vacation, then understand that baby just means you need to plan a little differently and be a lot … Continue reading
